Manchester United are among the teams said to be keeping a close eye on Cardiff City starlet Dylan Lawlor this season, according to reports.
While the summer transfer window is now closed, eyes will already be turning to possibilities for the upcoming January window. United could look to add more talent to their squad when the window re-opens.
According to EFL Analysis, United, along with Chelsea, Tottenham and Newcastle have all been watching Lawlor this season. They face competition from abroad in the form of RB Leipzig and Borussia Dortmund, who are also said to be monitoring the 19-year-old.
The centre-back broke into Cardiff’s first team picture last season. He has started every League One game for the club so far this campaign, with his performances earning him a first call-up to Craig Bellamy’s senior Wales squad.
The teenager was named in the starting line-up for the nation’s World Cup qualifier against Kazakhstan last week. He played the full 90 minutes and helped the team to keep a clean sheet in a 1-0 victory.
Following the match, former Premier League forward Bellamy was full of praise for the defender. “Beyond impressed. What a player,” he said, via Guardian Series.
“He was so just so impressive, and we needed him to be because we were fully aware of the pull-outs. Joe Rodon was gone, and there’s times you look and think, ‘how are we going to cope without Joe because he’s such an immense player for us?’
“This helps. We have the sort of player underneath him now, (who is) going to rival everyone. He’s a big plus to come out of this, we gained a big player from this.”
Cardiff are in a strong position in terms of a transfer with Lawlor having recently signed a new long-term contract with the club. The Bluebirds will be keen to keep hold of the player for as long as they can, especially with their aim being returning to the Championship at the first time of asking at the end of the season.
Lawlor is expected to be back in action for Cardiff when they take on Stockport County away from home on Saturday afternoon (3pm kick-off).
