Scenes for a for new period drama, understood to be Netflix’s Pride and Prejudice, are currently being shot on a Kent beach.
Horses, carriages and other props line Beach Street in Deal as filming gets underway for what is understood to be the new production of Jane Austen’s beloved novel.
Filming is taking place in Deal, along Beach Street and the promenade, believed to be for the upcoming Netflix series of Pride and Prejudice
Actors in period costumes have been spotted on the beach, with the landmark pier in the background.
The now-closed Three Compasses pub – one of the county’s oldest inns – has been transformed, with a new sign, and tables and chairs set up outside.
It is understood filming started in the town yesterday, and will wrap up tomorrow.
Several road closures are in place, authorised by Kent County Council, to allow filming to carry on.
These include Beach Street, Coppin Street, Brewer Street and Oak Street.

Deal Promenade is also closed between the junctions of Farrier Street and Oak Street, as is Beach Street Car Park.
Our reporter at the scene said: “Deal seafront has been returned to a bygone era from buildings transformed to old fashioned inns with adverts for labourers and rewards of five guineas for the return of stolen goods.
“Sailboats have appeared on the shoreline alongside actors in period clothing.
“Horses can also be seen awaiting their starring role.

“A small crowd has gathered watching over the production hoping to get a glimpse of proceedings.
“We were even treated to a take which saw one actor attempt juggling.
“Speaking to some other people, they all think it’s Pride and Prejudice.”
Although it has not been confirmed by the Kent Film Office if filming is for Pride and Prejudice or not, a post on social media said filming for the new series was taking place on Deal beach yesterday.
Pictures of actors in similar clothing were also taken in Rye earlier this week.
The six-part series will star Emma Corrin and Jack Lowden as Elizabeth Bennet and Mr Darcy, and Academy Award winner Olivia Colman as Mrs Bennet.

Last month, KentOnline reported that a period drama was to be shot in Deal over three days, with a notice saying modern-looking street furniture was to be temporarily moved out of the way.
it is not the first time Deal, or the wider Dover district, has been used as a shooting location.
Liar, ITV’s most-watched drama of 2017, was filmed in Deal, with key locations including the 1957-built pier and along The Marina, plus the Zetland Arms pub further down the coast at Kingsdown.

In April 2021 director Danny Boyle used the seafront and town centre of Deal as a location for the shooting of his TV miniseries Pistol.
This was a biopic of the pioneering 1970s punk band The Sex Pistols.
TV personalities Ant and Dec filmed in both Deal and Sandwich in October 2023 for an advertisement for the bank Santander.
And in April 2024, the Middle Street car park in Deal was shut for shooting for the cold case crime drama Unforgotten.
Scenes were also filmed at Deal Pier, St George’s Church, and outside The Port Arms pub.
Dover Castle has also been used in several productions, including Amazon’s My Lady Jane and Disney’s Into the Woods.
