A huge blaze has erupted in a Scots town with residents being asked to keep windows closed.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service received reports of a substantial fire tearing through Lossiemouth Quarry on Tuesday September 11 at around 7pm.

Roads in the area including the A941 remain closed while emergency services deal with the incident.

Shocking images show metres of ferocious orange flames across the landscape as thick plumes of black smoke arise into the air.

Four fire engines and a water carrier remain at the scene while hero firefighters battle to get the inferno under control.

It is understood this is the third fire at the location this year.

A spokesperson for the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service confirmed they received a call alerting them to a blaze at Lossiemouth Quarry on September 11 at around 19.19pm.

Four appliances and a water carrier are at the scene and locals living close to the location are advised to keep windows closed.

A spokesperson for Police Scotland said: “The A941 is closed in both directions between the B9103 and the B9135 following a report of a fire at a premises around 7.20pm on Thursday, 11 September, 2025.

“Emergency services are in attendance and drivers are being asked to avoid the area. Nearby residents are being asked to keep windows closed.”
