A Bristol man has appeared in court charged orchestrating a bomb hoax, among multiple other serious offences.
It following an incident last week in which dozens of homes had to be evacuated.
Nigel Horlock, 41, of Bedminster Down, appeared before Bristol Magistrates’ Court on Monday, April 21.
He was remanded in custody to appear at Bristol Crown Court on May 23.
He was charged with communicating false information in a bomb hoax.
Horlock has also been charged with arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered as well as common assault of an emergency worker, and assault by beating of an emergency worker.
He was arrested on Friday, April 18, after 78 homes were evacuated in Knowle in South Bristol.
That afternoon, firefighters had been called to reports of a blaze at a property in Queenshill Road.
They then called police after discovering “potential suspected ordnance” at the property.
A cordon was quickly established and dozens of homes within Queenshill Road and surrounding roads were evacuated.
Residents were obliged to stay away from their homes for several hours on Friday afternoon as a result of the incident.

Avon and Somerset Police said: “Nigel Horlock, 41, of Bedminster Down appeared at Bristol Magistrates’ Court on Monday 21 April charged with the following offences:
- Arson with recklessness as to whether life was endangered
- Assault by beating of an emergency worker
- Common assault of an emergency worker
- Bomb hoax – communicating false information.
“He was remanded into custody to appear at Bristol Crown Court on Friday 23 May.
“It follows an incident in Queenshill Road on Friday afternoon (18 April).”
