Generous people have donated more than £11,000 in a week to help the Kings Heath mum and her three children, and are arranging sponsored events and raffles tooMaeve Fanning having fun with her children
Maeve Fanning was told ‘every mother’s worst nightmare’ in February – that she had stage four cancer and it was inoperable.
When palliative chemotherapy stopped working and she began getting worse, the Kings Heath mum was given just two years to live.
She and her husband Paddy began searching for different ways to fight the rare thymoma cancer and found a private treatment in London – but it costs £11,000 a month.
BirminghamLive ran a story on Maeve’s GoFundMe appeal last week and the couple have been thrilled by people’s generosity and kindness.

“It’s just been phenomenal the amount of support I’ve received from my community and the wider public,” said Maeve, who is mum to Oonagh, aged eight, Cormac, four, and Ciaran, one.
“I’ve had so many lovely messages which has given me such a boost.
“Every donation, no matter how big or small, means so much to me and all helps towards the bigger goal.
“It has meant so much to me and my family, more than words can express.”
Mum-of-three Maeve Fanning needs to raise money for life-saving cancer treatment
More than £52,000 has been raised so far but she still needs more. Please donate to Maeve’s GoFundMe page here to help her raise the £100,000 she needs.
She added: “Thanks to all of you, I have now reached over the halfway mark. An incredible amount in just over a week.”I have now completed four weeks of treatment in London and although it is too early to know what difference it is making, I have high hopes.”I am also exploring potential treatment options in Germany so please know that every single penny donated counts and it is so touching to think that so many people care – people in my life now, people from years gone by and strangers. It means so much.”
One mum got in touch with our Brummie Mummies Facebook page to say she is organising a raffle at quiz and curry night at Woodbourne Sports Club in Solihull on October 24 to help raise funds.
“I know times are hard for everyone currently but any raffle donation however small would be greatly appreciated,” she said.
And one of Maeve’s friends is arranging a 24-hour padel tennis game from 10am on Saturday September 20 to 10am on Sunday September 21 at CorteSport at The Hays in Redditch.
“Our friend has worked really hard to set up the Padel game and I’m so thankful to him and also the players that are playing for the 24 hour duration,” said Maeve.
“It will take some stamina but anyone who wants to come down and have a go and join in the atmosphere are more than welcome.”
The money will help to pay hyperthermia, hyperbaric oxygen therapy, curcumin infusions and light therapy and possible overseas treatments too.
Maeve added: “It’s a horrendous situation, every mother’s worst nightmare and this is why I need to do everything I can to ensure I am still here for them.
“I just want to see my beautiful children grow up. I am trying absolutely everything to ensure I am alive and healthy to see that.”
