Kate Middleton had an emotional reunion with an old friend today during a royal engagement, as she was joined by none other than Lord Lieutenant of Suffolk, Jamie Lowther-Pinkerton – who happens to be Prince George’s godfather.
The reunion came the Princess of Wales visited Sudbury Silk Mills, a family-run weaving mill in Suffolk that has been at the forefront of jacquard weaving and an integral part of the British textile industry for over 300 years. And while royal watchers were no doubt focused on Catherine as she paid tribute to her husband, Prince William, in a Prince of Wales checked suit, for the future queen herself, a very special reunion was on the cards.
The Princess shares a profound bond with Lowther-Pinkerton, who served as the first private secretary for her, Prince William, and Prince Harry between 2005 and 2013 – almost double the length of tenure than any other private secretary for the trio. A former SAS Major, Lowther-Pinkerton was by William, Kate, and Harry’s side as they grew into their royal roles, and in a testament to the depth of affection between the Waleses and their aide, William and Kate named him godfather to Prince George in 2013. Lowther-Pinkerton’s son, also named William, was one of the two pageboys at the then Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s wedding in 2011.
