He is due to appear in court todayLiverpool Magistrates’ Court
A man has been charged after police found a gun inside a house in Old Swan. Merseyside Police carried out a warrant at a house on Thursday, September 11 and a suspected gun was found inside.
It was seized and has now been forensically tested to be confirmed as a self-loading pistol. Michael Calvert, 46, of Maddocks Street, in Old Swan, has been charged with possession of a firearm; possession of ammunition for a firearm without a certificate; possession with intent to supply controlled Class B drugs (cannabis and amphetamine); acquiring/using/possessing criminal property and offering to supply a controlled Class B drug (cannabis).
He has been remanded to appear at Liverpool Magistrate’s Court today, Friday, September 12.
Detective Inspector Gary Stratton said: “This recovery has removed a viable firearm from the community and an investigation is ongoing into the incident.
“The potential consequences of such weapons being in circulation are devastating, and each recovery makes those who live in areas affected by serious and organised crime safer.
“Community intelligence can be vital in finding weapons, so I’d continue to urge anyone with information on firearms being stored, carried or used to come forward and we will keep taking positive action.”
