Manchester United youngster Sam Mather is in talks to make a late permanent transfer to Kayserispor.

The Manchester Evening News reported last month that Mather had attracted interest from clubs in Germany, Sweden and Turkey, and the player was hoping for a move away to kickstart his career.

If the transfer is finalised, United would receive a small transfer fee for Mather and would insert a buyback clause. The Turkish transfer window closes on Friday night and there are just a few hours remaining to complete the deal.

Kayserispor have been identified as a good fit for Mather as he looks to take the next steps in his career.

Although Mather’s contract at Old Trafford expires in the summer of 2027, there is hunger on the player’s behalf for regular starts after outgrowing academy football with the Under-21s.

Mather has predominantly played on the left wing during his time in the academy, but his preferred position is the No.10 role and the player is understood to be keen to play regular competitive football.

United agreed an eleventh-hour loan move for Mather to join Tranmere Rovers in the January transfer window, but Nigel Adkins was sacked just a few weeks after the youngster’s arrival.

Last year, Mather signed a new three-year contract. He was given fresh terms on the back of a promising season and being involved in the pre-season tour of the United States.
