Lichfield Street Hub Library is hosting the LGBTQ+ Voices Exhibition, following on from the successful presentation of Fynn O’Connor’s LGBTQ+ Voices book to Walsall Archives in June.
Featuring 104 portraits and interviews created by Fynn O’Connor, the exhibition opened at the end of August and will run during library opening hours until 25 September 2025. It is the culmination of the LGBTQ+ Voices project, which Fynn O’Connor had the original idea for during the COVID lockdowns and started it in 2021, with the aim of empowering the LGBTQ+ community and ensuring that every individual feels seen, heard, respected and celebrated for who they are.
The project captured stories from across the West Midlands, including Birmingham and the Black Country, Shropshire, Stoke and Staffordshire, Hereford and Worcester, Coventry and Warwickshire. The result is a unique collection of diverse voices reflecting different ages, ethnicities, sexualities and abilities, each with a connection to the LGBTQ+ community.
Fynn O’Connor will also be appearing at the library on Saturday 20 September at 2pm to deliver a reading from LGBTQ+ Voices and take part in a Q&A session. The event is open to anyone aged 15 and over, with no booking required.
“ We are delighted to host this powerful exhibition that showcases the rich diversity of LGBTQ+ voices in our community. This exhibition provides a wonderful opportunity for everyone to engage with these inspiring stories and portraits that celebrate authenticity and lived experiences. By hosting this exhibition, we continue to foster a truly inclusive community where every voice is not just heard, but celebrated, here in Walsall. “
“ It’s a privilege to bring the final exhibition of all 104 portraits to Walsall. The project began in lockdown and has been about making sure LGBTQ+ voices are seen, valued and respected. My hope is that the exhibition helps people feel less isolated and more connected – it really belongs to the participants and the wider community. “
The LGBTQ+ Voices book is now being stocked by libraries, archives, secondary schools, colleges and universities as an authentic educational resource to support inclusion and positive change.
The exhibition runs until 25 September 2025 during library opening hours:
- Monday to Friday, 8.30am – 6.00pm
- Saturday, 8.30am – 5.00pm
