Christian Dior is about to start a fresh chapter under new creative director Jonathan Anderson, and has been adding to and reorganising its senior staff. Notably in the communications department, which the LVMH group’s star label has strengthened by hiring Peter Utz, who has worked in the past at Celine, Saint Laurent and Prada.

Utz, who began his business career at Dior, is returning to the Parisian label in the role of head of global PR for the men’s and women’s collections. He will also be in charge of celebrity relations, as Dior has indicated in a communiqué.

Utz has a 20-year-plus experience in the luxury sector, and has been based in France and the USA. He began in 2002 in retail sales at Christian Dior Couture, and was at Prada from 2008 to 2012. He then joined Saint Laurent as head of VIP relations, before relocating to Los Angeles in 2016, as head of brand marketing at concept store Maxfield.

While at Saint Laurent, Utz notably worked alongside Hedi Slimane, who was the luxury label’s creative director between 2012 and 2016. Two years later, he teamed up again with Slimane at Celine, joining the LVMH group. In 2018, Utz took charge of the couture line and of corporate events at Celine, managing the label’s relationship with strategic clients as well as its international events.

At Dior, he will be working with Mathilde Favier, head of women’s celebrity relations, and with Sam Maouchi, in charge of men’s celebrity relations, and will report to Olivier Bialobos, Christian Dior’s head of communications and brand image.

The label has also boosted its design department by appointing Michela Kalb as head of haute couture, women’s and men’s ready-to-wear, women’s footwear and the baby wear collections.
