A 12-year-old boy died after being thrown from a park roundabout propelled by an e-bike wheel at ‘very high speed’, an inquest hearing was told.

Logan Carter died in the tragedy in Winsford, Cheshire, on the evening of Friday, August 29. Police were alerted just before 6.15pm after paramedics from the North West Ambulance Service attended raced to Wharton Recreation Ground.

At the scene, near Ledward Street, Logan was found to have been seriously hurt after falling from park apparatus. He was treated at the scene but sadly died.

An inquest into his death was opened at Cheshire Coroner’s Court in Warrington on Wednesday (September 10).

The hearing was told Logan, who lived in Winsford, was ‘seated in the centre of a roundabout in the park’ and that ‘an electric bike wheel was used to spin the roundabout at very high speed’.

“Master Carter was thrown from the roundabout at significant force, sustaining severe injuries,” the hearing was told. “Despite the efforts of paramedics, Master Carter sadly passed away.”

Senior coroner Jacqueline Devonish formally opened the inquest into the ‘unnatural’ death. A final hearing has been provisionally listed for March 30 next year.

On September 1, Cheshire Police said a 13-year-old boy had been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He was released pending further enquiries.

In a moving tribute issued following his death, Logan’s family said: “Logan was a much-loved son, brother, grandson, great-grandson, cousin and friend to many. He had an infectious personality and a beautiful smile.

“Everyone wanted to be where Logan was. He was a little boy who was so full of life and wanted to make everyone laugh.

“He made every day worth living. Logan was everyone’s therapy person, their calm, and he will be missed more than we can ever put into words.

“We are taking comfort from the words of support we have received whilst we take time to come to terms with the untimely loss of our blue eyed boy.”

A GoFundMe page set up to raise funds for his family has so raised more than £19,000.
