Bristol Water has delivered bottled water to some of its “most vulnerable” customers across North Somerset due to an issue at the Cheddar treatment works.
The ‘precautionary’ measures are in place for Category 1 and 2 customers who may have disabilities, medical conditions or other special needs.
“For precaution purposes, we have started to deliver bottled water to our most vulnerable customers (Cat 1 and 2),” Bristol Water said in a statement issued through their social media channels today (Sunday September 14).
“This is due to an issue at a Cheddar treatment work.”
“Should there be any issues with your water supply, we will make sure that you are notified promptly.”
The bottles are being delivered to customers who have registered for Bristol Water’s Priority Services system of specialised support. To find out if you’re eligible to sign up for free, you can visit the Bristol Water website.
The deliveries were made due to concerns over the amount of water available at the Cheddar Reservoir, rather than because of any issues with the treatment process.
The most recent publicly available water reading at Cheddar, on September 9, showed storage levels at 25 per cent.
On the same date in 2024, storage was at 37 per cent. None of the residents who received the bottled water are understood to be without running water, despite the low storage levels.
