A flood alert has been issued in Birmingham after the city was lashed by torrential rain this afternoon, Sunday, September 14.
Water levels were rising on the River Rea at Bournville’s Woodbrooke Road river gauge “as a result of heavy rainfall”.

The alert said flooding of roads and farmland was possible this evening and into Monday morning.
It went on: “Further rainfall is forecast over the next 24 hours.
“We expect river levels to remain high into Monday. We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are actively checking river levels and the weather forecast.
“Please plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded and avoid using low lying footpaths and bridges near local watercourses.”
A flood alert was also issued for the River Sow and River Penk in Stafford.
The alert read: “River levels are rising at the Stafford river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall this afternoon.
“Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is possible this evening and into Monday morning.
“We expect flooding to affect low-lying land and roads adjacent to the River Sow between Great Bridgeford and Shugborough, the River Penk between Coven and Stafford, the Sandyford Brook, the Rising Brook, the Ridings Brook and the Saredon Brook.
“Further rainfall is forecast over the next 24 hours.
“We expect river levels to remain high into Monday morning.
“We are closely monitoring the situation. Our incident response staff are actively checking river levels and the weather forecast.
“Please plan driving routes to avoid low lying roads near rivers, which may be flooded and avoid using low lying footpaths and bridges near local watercourses.”
