Three people have been taken to hospital after emergency services attended the scene of a serious crash in Co Down.

The Air Ambulance attended the crash, which happened close to the Ballydugan Road area of Downpatrick.

A PSNI spokesperson said: “Road users are advised that the Ballydugan Road in Downpatrick is closed due to a serious road traffic collision. Please seek an alternative route.”

An NI Ambulance Service (NIAS) spokesperson confirmed three people had been hospitalised following the crash.

“The Northern Ireland Ambulance Service received a 999 call at 14:08 on Monday September 15, following reports of an RTC in the Ballydugan Road area of Downpatrick,” they said.

“NIAS tasked five emergency ambulance crews, one paramedic, one ambulance officer, one Hazardous Area Response Team (HART) to the scene.

“NIAS also tasked the Charity Air Ambulance with HEMS on board to the scene.

“Following assessment and initial treatment at the scene, three people were taken to Royal Victoria Hospital by ambulance.”

Newry Mourne and Down councillor, Alan Lewis, said his “thoughts are with those involved”.

“I thank the emergency services for their quick and efficient response, I ask that people avoid the area as it will be closed late into the evening, praying for those injured,” added the DUP councillor.
