A man was arrested outside Chandos Primary School in Vaughton Street South, Highgate, Birmingham after he allegedly ‘attacked members of the public’
Police have been asked to step up patrols outside a Midland school after a man was arrested for allegedly attacking people outside.
It happened near Chandos Primary School in Vaughton Street South, Highgate, this afternoon, Tuesday, September 16.
A man was said to have been attacking members of the public shortly after the school day finished. A suspect, in his 30s, was later arrested on suspicion of assault.

Headteacher Debbie Norbury sent a message to parents which said: “Dear parents, thank you for your support with the incident that happened after school.
“I would like to reassure you a suspect is in police custody and police will be contacting the school and parents to take statements.
“I have also requested police presence at the start and end of the school day tomorrow.
“We will take every step necessary to keep our children and families safe. Mrs Norbury, Chandos Primary School.”

Another message from the school urged anyone who witnessed the incident to contact the police.
It said: “In relation to today’s incident, if you are a witness to what happened please call the police on 101 quoting crime reference number 34800160925, Thanks.”
Police said officers were called at 3.15pm to a ‘report of a man assaulting members of the public’.

A spokesman for West Midlands Police said: “A man is in custody following an assault near a school in Birmingham.
“We were called to Vaughton Street South at 3.15pm after a report of a man assaulting members of the public.
“Officers attended and arrested a man in his 30s on suspicion of assault.
“The man was taken to hospital following his arrest and remains in custody at this time while our enquiries continue.
“We are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area and saw what happened.
