Anel Ahmedhodžić spent three years at Sheffield United and left them for Feyenoord in the summer window.
The centre-back was a regular during his time at Sheffield United, playing 114 games and managing 12 goals and three assists. He’s already cemented his place at the Dutch club, playing 540 minutes from six games so far.
According to 1908.nl, the Eredivisie side paid €6.9m to Sheffield United. They’ve relayed comments from their general manager, Dennis te Kloese, about his signing.
1908.nl state the Feyenoord official was ‘surprised’ it was possible for his side to take the defender away from the Blades last month. Speaking to RTV Rijnmond, he expressed his delight over securing the 26-year-old’s services.
Te Kloese is of the belief several factors favoured Feyenoord when signing him from the Championship club.
“I thought it was remarkable that he turned out to be feasible. He has become a valued player in England after playing for Malmö under Jon Dahl Tomasson, among others. So, perhaps it was due to connections, his contract situation or his personal interest that he ended up playing for us,” he said.
The defender graduated from Malmö FF’s academy and was sold to Nottingham Forest in 2016. He spent three years with the Reds and returned to the Swedish club in 2019. After a few loan spells, he impressed for Malmö and that helped him secure a move to Sheffield United in 2022.
Ahmedhodžić has signed a contract until 2029, and the Feyenoord general manager says their policy will allow him to make a big jump. This could have also played a part in his summer arrival.
“We also have something special to offer players. If you look at our stadium and our fans, the technical staff and the policy of recent years. That policy is also there for players who may want to move on to a bigger club,” Te Kloese explained.
