A Birmingham takeaway is ‘proud’ to represent the West Midlands after it was nominated in a national award.
Located in Sparkbrook, Taqi’s Grill will be competing against 11 other businesses in the UberEats Restaurant of the Year award.
On September 23, Taqi’s Grill will find out whether the Birmingham takeaway is crowned ‘best’ in the UK & Ireland.

Serving customers behind a window, the lack of seating at Taqi’s Grill means the business is perfect for food delivery.
Menu highlights include chargrilled doner and burgers, including the Peaky Blinders burger (double cheeseburger, salad and special sauce).

Marketing manager Yusef Al-Shamiri spoke to BirminghamLive about the ‘proud’ nomination and what makes Taqi’s Grill ‘different’ from the competition.
He said: “The West Midlands has a lot to offer and it hasn’t had enough recognition.
“Hopefully if we win, it brings more attention and traffic so people realise what great food we provide.
“Taqi’s offers something different, from the start we’ve been adamant about bringing the community together with great food.
“Birmingham has a lot of fried chicken shops and we went for something different.
“People are paying more attention to their health and we chargrill our chicken instead.
“No matter where we finish, we’re proud to be nominated and represent the region.
“They are all great shops, but if we win, it would take us to another level.”
With a judging panel including Levi Roots, Taqi’s will be put to the test with a cooking competition against the other restaurants and takeaways.
If Taqi’s is successful, the Birmingham restaurant will scoop a prize of £100,000.
The Sparkbrook location is currently the only Taqi’s – but future plans include a Hall Green restaurant early next year.
Unlike the Sparkbrook restaurant, Taqi’s Grill in Hall Green will feature sit-down dining to satisfy the growing demand for customers.
