It’s fair to say everyone has at least once been drawn to a Greggs Bakery by the aroma of freshly baked sausage rolls, even though they had no intention of walking into one. It’s something that you might find yourself doing often in the Welsh capital, Cardiff.
With 25 Greggs stores spread around Cardiff, chances are you might walk along a street that has one, and get swept away by the smell of fresh bakes. If you want to know which one’s the best, you might fancy reading our list of every Greggs store in Cardiff rated best to worst.
If you fancy none on our list, there still hope for the Greggs enthusiast in you, as the bakery chain seems all set to be opening another store in the city centre.
The latest store in Cardiff means the city will retain its status as the Welsh city with the most numbers of Greggs at 26 stores — more than twice the number of shops in Swansea, which is in second place. Never miss a Cardiff story by signing up to our daily newsletter here
The new store will open next to the Boots, and Smiggle at the St David’s Centre in Cardiff.
Though Greggs signage has been put up at the store, the store won’t be open for weeks.
A Greggs spokesperson said: “Greggs is due to open a new shop in Cardiff within the next few weeks.
“We will be able to share further details with you closer to the opening.”
While Cardiff has the most number of Greggs, the bakery chain has a significant presence across Wales.
Here’s a list of 10 places across Wales that have the most number of Greggs:
- Cardiff – 25 shops
- Swansea – 12 shops
- Newport – 11 shops
- Bridgend – 8 shops
- Wrexham – 4 shops
- Merthyr Tydfil – 4 shops
- Caerphilly – 4 shops
- Llanelli – 3 shops
- Cwmbran – 3 shops
- Pontyclun – 3 shops
The bakery chain has also introduced a new change to how their products are placed and checkout, in a bid to tackle a rise in shoplifting.
Some Greggs stores will be removing their self-server fridges and place products like sandwiches and drinks, behind the counter with the rest of their baked goods.
These new measures are going to be trialled out at only five stores that have been particularly exposed to anti-social behaviour, including London stores in Whitechapel, Peckham and Ilford.
