Hearing held in lawsuit filed by former London mayor

  • 20 September 2025

LONDON, Ky. (WKYT) – A judge heard arguments from a former Kentucky mayor asking to be put back on the job.

It comes after Randall Weddle was impeached as the mayor of London earlier this month. Weddle is now suing.

The former mayor appeared in Laurel County Circuit Court in front of Judge David Williams on Friday afternoon.

Three of the initial charges from the September 5 public hearing were discussed, including the mortgage related to the Levi Jackson State Park, appointments to the ethics board and the mayor’s failure to publish an ordinance.

The former mayor’s attorney also mentioned irreparable damages. Long-time city attorney Larry Bryson was fired after the appointment of the interim mayor. This is a part of the reason the former mayor’s attorney claims there are irreparable damages.

Weddle was in the courtroom, but none of the city council members or the interim mayor were there. However, plenty of support for the former mayor filled the courtroom, with many of them wearing t-shirts saying they stand with Weddle.

The judge said the evidence used will be everything on the record from the September 5 public hearing. The judge did not reappoint Mayor Weddle because he said he worries about further division.

“I’m putting the new mayor and the city on notice that they need to move forward very gingerly right now. They don’t need to be making any massive changes; they need to, until they get an opinion back on this, they need to go very gingerly. I don’t want any mass firings,” said Judge David Williams.

Judge Williams gave the council’s attorneys until Wednesday to file and also gave former Mayor Weddle’s attorney five days to respond and then he will advance to his docket to make a final decision.
