Daniel Farke will have been relieved to have picked up a win on Saturday. Anything other than a win at Wolves would have only seen the pressure on Farke begin to ramp up quickly.

But, Farke’s men came from behind to beat Wolves at Molineux. A happy hunting ground for Leeds, who won all three matches against the Midlands side when Jesse Marsch was in charge at Leeds, 2022-2023.

Having picked up four points from four games and scored one solitary goal, a penalty against Everton, Leeds needed to win at Wolves. That, they did. A 3-1 comeback win over Vitor Pereira’s struggling side.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Anton Stach and Noah Okafor scored. The first time three Leeds players had all scored their first goal in the same game, in the club’s history. Farke will have felt a big degree of relief.

But if Farke was relieved, imagine how Gabriel Gudmundsson felt. The Sweden star was the man who scored the bizarre own goal that handed Fulham a win at Craven Cottage last weekend, a complete fluke.

Yet, having bounced off his head and arguably not switching on sooner to get his body in a better area, Gudmundsson was in tears in the Leeds dressing room, according to The Rest Is Football’s Gary Lineker.

The YEP say Gudmundsson was spotted releasing some pent-up relief as the ref blew for full-time: “[He was] screaming in joy and relief at the full-time whistle, grabbing his shorts and yelling at the sky.”

Gabriel Gudmundsson produces another brilliant performance

Arguably, Gudmundsson has been Leeds’ best signing. Only Anton Stach can challenge Gudmundsson on this stat, with the only three others to start all five games – Jayden Bogle, Joe Rodon, Pascal Struijk.

But as far as FotMob’s rating for the season is concerned, Gudmundsson’s own goal has seen his number drop. It claims that actually, Karl Darlow has been Leeds’ best player since the 2025-26 season began.

Leeds’ top-10 players according to FotMob:

Name Games (Starts) FotMob rating 1. Karl Darlow 2 (2) 7.73 2. Anton Stach 5 (5) 7.38 3. Ethan Ampadu 3 (3) 7.15 4. Joe Rodon 5 (5) 6.77 5. Dominic Calvert-Lewin 3 (2) 6.76 6. Noah Okafor 3 (2) 6.72 7. Sean Longstaff 5 (3) 6.69 8. Brenden Aaronson 5 (2) 6.66 9. Pascal Struijk 5 (5) 6.66 10. Gabriel Gudmundsson 5 (5) 6.65

But here at LeedsUnited.News, we think Gudmundsson has been a bargain at just £10m. Arguably, he is Leeds’ best left-back since Charlie Taylor, and if he continues, possibly Ian Harte. A brilliant start from him.
