The ‘poshest’ area of Birmingham has the city’s highest burglary rate, analysis of crime data has revealed.
It’s not often Edgbaston tops a crime list but that is the case when it comes to burglary.
Crime is generally low in the suburb which would be classed among the best areas to live but burglary is an issue on some of the most expensive streets in the city.

There were 302 break-ins reported in the area in the 12 months to July 2025, almost one every day on average.
It put Edgbaston ahead of Selly Oak, South Yardley, Stockland Green and Lozells and East Handsworth on the city’s burglary list.
Closer analysis of crime maps showed Edgbaston burglary hotspots tended to be in and around the area close to the main Hagley Road.

These exclusive streets feature large homes, many of them behind high walls or gates for added security.
Leafy Westfield Road is the most expensive street, where homes sell for £1.67 million on average.
West Midlands Police said break-ins fell by 12% between April and August compared with the same period last year, while officers had attended all reported residential burglaries since December 2022, unless victims had requested them not to.
A spokesperson added: “We’re committed to following the trail of evidence in all the cases we examine − but if an investigation finds no witnesses, CCTV or forensic evidence then the chances of identifying offenders is vastly reduced.
“We continuously evaluate and refine our strategies, we remain committed to providing a safer environment for all members of the public.”
