A palace insider has clarified claims of relationship troubles between King Charles and his eldest son, Prince William, followingPrince Harry’s trip to the UK in which he met with his father. As reported in the Daily Mail, there are “fears” some in camp “Team Harry” may use the Duke’s recent meeting with his father to “perhaps sinisterly, drive a wedge between the King and his elder son and heir”.
As reported in the outlet, one royal insider said: “These syrupy briefings from supposed Sussex sources are precisely why The King and Royal family are so hesitant to embark on any road to rapprochement. If the intention is to encourage a rebuilding of trust and relationships, they serve the precise opposite effect.
“As last week’s State Visit clearly demonstrated, the power and impact of the modern monarchy lies in the unshakeable bond between The King and the Prince of Wales, supported by other working members of the family.”
The latest inflammatory claims were made to the Mail on Sunday newspaper, which reported that “high-level talks are underway to gradually bring King Charles and Prince Harry together in a public show of unity for the first time in at least six years”.
Earlier this month, Prince Harry flew to the UK to attend the WellChild Awards, during which he made time to see King Charles at Clarence House in between his engagements – the first time he had seen him in over two years.
He last saw his father in February 2024, shortly after it was announced that Charles was undergoing treatment for an unspecified form of cancer. Last May, Harry told the BBC his father wasn’t speaking to him because of his security battles but that “it would be nice to reconcile.”
Harry and his wife, Meghan made a surprise joint appearance this weekend at Kevin Costner’s starry charity event in Santa Barbara on Saturday.
