John Sugden has been ripping through the village with his murdering rampage but fans have predicated that the tables could be turned
Emmerdale fans think that John Sugden could be killed off in a shock twist. For months, John (Oliver Farnworth) run rampage as the Yorkshire village’s latest serial killer but viewers now think that the tables could be turned.
Since his arrival on the scene in August 2024, John has killed Nate Robinson (Jurell Carter), was also responsible for the death of Owen Michaels (Simon Haines) and kidnapped Mack Boyd. His crimes were recently exposed and the village learned what he’d been up to for the past year or so. John’s brother Robert Sugden (Ryan Hawley) was finally released from prison after being charged with attempted murder last week.
In the latest instalment of the ITV soap, John got into a heated confrontation with Caleb Miligan (William Ash), who promptly grabbed him by the neck and shoved him up against a van. John reminded him he knows where Anthony’s body is buried – and that Ruby killed her dad – but Caleb warned him: “Well, I think given recent developments, we can easily pin that one on you.”
When it came to the issue of DNA, John insisted he was ‘very careful’ with it all and Ruby’s will be all over him. John then insisted that Caleb needed to help him get out of the county or his wife would go to prison.

He said: “Next truck to Europe, you get me inside. Meet me here, alone. If Cain or the police turn up, I have insurance. I’ve got stuff I need to get in place first. I guess you have too.”
At the end of the episode, it looked as if Caleb and John were set to go through with the whole thing. Caleb explained that the truck was setting off for Hull first thing in the morning, and he would be driving on to Rotterdam from there.
John said: “I can make my way to France from there. You’re doing right by your wife, Caleb. Respect.” Caleb replied: “If you mess this up and get caught, leave Ruby’s name out of it. Otherwise, I swear to you that I’ll find you in whatever prison you’re in, and I’ll kill you.”
Fans of the Yorkshire-based serial, which began in 1972, took to social media site Reddit to discuss the latest goings-on in the village, and one predicted that this could spell the end for John.
They wrote: “I wonder if Caleb is just gonna use the opportunity to off John. honestly John has some nerve trying to blackmail Caleb then being alone in a car with him.”
In reply, one user seemingly agreed as they joked: “I think it’ll come down to both brothers together gently offing his head from his body with a shovel.”

Another said: “Loved the stand off between Caleb and John, although I do wonder what John is going to do with himself between leaving Calebs car and the next day”, whilst a fourth said: “I don’t think John’s going to show up anywhere anymore, just in the van. The episodes are now speeding through time.”
Earlier in the episode, fans had also picked up on a line about John, a doctor, seeing ‘death as a failure’ and several wondered what was meant by this.
One theorised: “I thought the dead as a failure point was pretty clear. Apart from when he chucked himself and Aaron over the gorge (which was an in the moment reaction), John has been focused on saving people from death. He continually failed to kill Mack because he couldn’t bring himself to do it.
“I thought Mack’s comment about narcissism was spot on – John didn’t save Mack because of any empathy, he did it because his own ego can’t cope with not saving people.”
