It was a highly momentous and joyful occasion for the whole country and the royal family—though few were more excited than young Princess Charlotte.

Charlotte was just eight-years-old when she attended King Charles’s coronation concert at Windsor Castle in 2023—and while the show featured performances from huge names such as Lionel Ritchie and Katy Perry, it was the younger royals that raised a smile from onlookers for their upbeat manner and excitable dancing.

Charlotte and older brother, Prince George, were seen having a whale of a time in the Royal Box, alongside their parents, Prince William and Kate Middleton.

However, amongst the high spirits of the royal occasion, there was one moment where the animated Princess Charlotte accidentally broke royal protocol.

As per tradition, the two most senior royals, King Charles and Queen Camilla, were the last to take their seats at the royal box.

In a mark of respect for her grandfather, who had just been crowned King, Charlotte bowed a deep curtsy.

But in doing so, she turned her back on the new queen and was not fast enough to repeat the curtsy for her.

However, Camilla’s reaction to the young royal only exemplified the pair’s strong bond, as Camilla just took the moment in her stride.

In the unearthed footage, the queen was spotted patting Charlotte on her back, which saw Charlotte look up and grin at her step-grandmother.

While members of the royal family used to be real sticklers for protocol, sticking by the ‘never complain, never explain’ mantra, we have started to see a shift away from stricter rules in more recent years.

Kate Middleton has showed a warmer and more relatable side to the royal family; not as aloof as some of her predecessors, her natural warmth when engaging with subjects has made her well-liked by the public. Most recently, she was seen kissing her father-in-law on the cheek during a family funeral—something which we were unlikely to see in prior situations.

She has also stressed that she wants her three children to have a more normal upbringing; it’s thought to be the reason why the Wales family have no live-in staff, with the children expected to muck in with chores.

We love these refreshing new royals!
