Leeds quietly continued their good start to the Premier League season with a win at bottom club Wolves to move up to 12th in the table.

Widely tipped to go straight back down after promotion last season, Leeds have already notched two wins against Everton and Wolves, as well as a draw at home to Newcastle.

A heavy defeat at Arsenal was disappointing and exposed fans’ fears surrounding manager Daniel Farke, as did a frustrating 1-0 reverse at Fulham and shambolic Carabao Cup defeat at Sheffield Wednesday.

However, the turnaround at Wolves last week renewed confidence at Elland Road, with winnable fixtures coming up in the next seven games including clashes with Bournemouth, Burnley, West Ham, Brighton and Nottingham Forest.

Alan Shearer names Leeds boss Daniel Farke his Premier League manager of the week

In his weekly ‘Team of the Week’ column for the Premier League, Alan Shearer named midfielder Anton Stach in his team for his goal at Wolves.

Shearer said: “What a way to score your first Premier League goal! An incredible free-kick that put Leeds ahead, and then an excellent assist to make it 3-1 in a big win at Wolves.”

And the league’s all-time top scorer named Daniel Farke as his Manager of the Week for leading Leeds to their crucial win at Wolves.

“In what was a huge match against a team close to them in the table, Farke masterminded a superb 3-1 win against Wolves for Leeds’ first away win of the season,” wrote Shearer.

Another Team of the Week comes from former Watford striker Troy Deeney, who also included Anton Stach in his BBC Sport column.

Like Shearer, Deeney named Farke as his Manager of the Week, admitting that he ‘100% got it wrong’ with his pre-season predictions about Leeds.

Deeney said: “[This is] probably the only time I’m going to give it to him. I put him up as one of those managers that might get the sack because of the way it ended last year. I have to say I 100% got it wrong.

“Wonderful win against Wolves away from home after going a goal down. He’s got his Leeds side fighting and trying to stay up.”
