An Edinburgh Ryanair flight was forced to divert with passengers landing ‘120 miles from their destination’.
Ryanair flight FR3646 left the Scottish capital at around 1.30pm this afternoon, Wednesday, September 23 and was set to land in Milan around 5pm, reports Edinburgh Live.
However, due to thunderstorms near Milan, Scots holidaymakers were forced to land at Bologna airport and landed around 6.30pm.
Ryan said the plane landed around 120 miles from their destination but confirmed they had arranged transport for passengers to get them to their destinations.
A Ryanair spokesperson said: “This flight from Edinburgh to Milan Bergamo (23 Sept) diverted to Bologna due to Thunderstorms at Milan Bergamo Airport.
“To get passengers to their final destination as quickly as possible, we arranged for alternative transport from Bologna to Milan that night.”
A number of flights have been diverted already this year, with passengers landing in different cities and capitals across Europe.
At the start of the year, Aer Lingus flight EI3250 left Dublin at 6.36am on January 11 and was set to land in Edinburgh at 7.50am. However, the aircraft made an unexpected diversion to Newcastle.
In June, Jet2 flight LS3922 left Malta at 11.45am on June 25 and was set for the Scottish capital but passengers landed 700-miles from the city in Geneva.
Ryanair have been approached for comment.
