A new seafood restaurant has set out plans to expand across the UK. The move would see the chain open its first ever store in Scotland.

Shrimp & Co was only established earlier this year, but has confirmed that it would like to open up three new sites before the end of the year, with Glasgow included on its list of potential areas.

It comes as part of the restaurant’s bold expansion plans that will see it try and open a target of 50 new sites within the next three years, with other potential locations including Milton Keynes, Brixton, Liverpool, Leeds, Nottingham and Manchester.

The casual seafood chain only opened the doors to its first restaurant in Leicester on March 25, 2025, but quickly went on to open two new sites on Birmingham’s Broad Street and in the StarCity shopping centre.

Co-founder Imran Makda hopes that, despite the first three sites being company owned, that the business will expand across the UK and beyond by using a franchise model.

Aiming to become “the Nando’s of seafood”, Shrimp & Co is said to be on a mission to make “seafood fun, social and accessible in the UK” and to create a brand with the same pull as the peri-peri chicken chain, reports Restaurant Online.

With a mission to “redefine seafood for UK diners”, the restaurant delivers laidback, flavour-packed food such as fresh shrimp skewers and bold seafood boils that deliver “just off the boat freshness.”

Despite being a new addition to the restaurant market, the UK-owned chain’s bold expansion plans intends to see it open 50 stores within the next three years, with 12 planned for within the next year.

Co-founder Imran Makda said: “We are trying to become the Nando’s of seafood. The idea came from the fact that there isn’t anything like that out there at the moment. You go into a Nando’s and there’s every single different type of person that enjoys it, and that’s essentially the vision for us.

“Traditionally, when you think about seafood you think it’s expensive and very easy to get wrong. The spin we want to put on it is to make it fun, make it vibrant, and make it affordable to the masses.”

News of Shrimp & Co’s potential first ever Scottish store and expansion plans comes just after a beloved US-based homeware store made its UK debut this week.

Pottery Barn, one of America’s most beloved names in home interiors, launched its UK website yesterday, September 23, allowing Brits to browse its signature ‘farmhouse aesthetic’ for the first time.

While the firm will also be opening a pop-up shop in Tottenham’s West Elm store during October, it has been revealed that the brand will be stocked in John Lewis stores next year, although locations are yet to be revealed.

Amidst a wave of closures, the Scottish high street has been experiencing some good news, with popular Chinese lifestyle retailer MINISO confirming it would be opening in Glasgow’s Central Train Station at 12pm on Friday, September 26.

Set to be located next to Holland and Barrett, the launch of the new store will feature live performances, fun activities for the whole family, while the first shoppers who spend £5 or over will get a free goody bag worth £25.

Glasgow shoppers will also be excited to hear that the city is set to become home to the country’s second Uniqlo store, with the Japanese apparel brand set to open its Argyle Street site on Thursday, October 2.
