This October, Scotland’s landscapes are set to host a thrilling family adventure filled with mystery, games, and seasonal fun. One of the country’s historic estates is opening its grounds for a spooky autumn experience designed to delight visitors of all ages.

Drumlanrig Castle & Country Estate is inviting families to step into a world of spooky fun this October with its annual Halloween Trail, promising an adventure full of games, puzzles, and seasonal activities for all ages.

Running from Saturday October 11 to Sunday October 26, the event lets young detectives team up with Monty, Queenie, and their sidekick Grog the Dog to solve a mischievous crime that has resulted in the castle’s treasure being stolen.

Participants are armed with a detective scroll and pencil as they follow a trail through the gardens, uncovering creepy clues, tackling mini challenges, and piecing together puzzles to identify the culprit behind the theft.

Along the way, families encounter eerie props, interactive games, and photo opportunities, combining a sense of adventure with Halloween excitement.

The experience culminates in the estate’s Pumpkin Patch, where children can fill wheelbarrows with pumpkins to decorate at the Larchwood Cabin or take home for carving.

Tickets which start from £10, also include full access to the Adventure Playground and Castle Gardens. Children can zoom down flying foxes, climb towers before sliding down twisting slides, and explore the many swinging, sliding, and climbing structures.

Beyond the playground, the Castle Gardens feature hidden heather huts, towering trees, and golden autumnal plants, offering scenic walks and seasonal exploration.

To keep little ones fuelled, tickets include a Snack Box with a drink, fruit, and crisps. The Larchwood Cabin Café remains open throughout, serving sandwiches, toasted paninis, soups, salads, and home-baked treats, alongside hot and cold drinks.

Floss Pop will be on site selling candy floss and on Sundays the Castle Tearoom serves its popular roast dinners.

Adding a creative element, Halloween Children’s Craft Workshops take place from Tuesday October 14 to Tuesday October 21.

Designed for children aged four to 12, these one-hour sessions at the Larchwood Cabin let kids enjoy hands-on, Halloween-inspired crafts for five pounds per child.
