Princess Charlotte reminded fans online of her grandmother Princess Diana in her body language while being photographed in a series of clips that went viral on TikTok.
The clip begins with Princess Diana cocking her head to one side as she gives what one fan described as the “Spencer stare” to photographers during a royal engagement, referring to the late princess’ maiden name.
The visit to Eton College in 1995 marked Charlotte’s father Prince William’s first day at the prestigious boarding school, which her older brother may well wind up going to himself.
The video then cuts to Charlotte, 10, during a variety of royal engagements where she was prolifically photographed.
Why It Matters
The post went viral after it was liked 61.3k times and viewed 856k times having been posted with the message: “The grandmother, the granddaughter.”
What to Know
The initial clip of Diana in a blue double-breasted blazer comes from Prince William’s first day at Eton when he was joined by his whole family, also including King Charles III (then Prince Charles) and Prince Harry.
Diana and Charles had separated by the time they took their oldest son to his new school on September 6, 1995, but would not officially divorce for another year. Diana died in a car crash in Paris a year after that in 1997.
Meanwhile, the first clip of Princess Charlotte shows her looking out seemingly at photographers through the rainy window of a car at Charles’ coronation, in May 2023.
It is not possible to know for sure who or what she was looking at but there appears to be the slightest hint of an eye roll as she looks away.
The next clip comes from the royal family’s visit to church at Sandringham on Christmas Day, 2024, followed by Charlotte and Princess Kate watching the R.A.F. fly past at Trooping the Color from the balcony of Buckingham Palace in July.
What People Are Saying
One fan replied, “the Spencer stare again” while another wrote: “50% Elisabeth 50% Lady D. ❤”
Another felt they could “see Great grandmother Queen Elizabeth,” and a fourth wrote: “Spencer genes are strong 💯.”
And another said: “Such a shame Diana would of [sic] spoiled her grandchildren so much.”
What Happens Next
Right now, like children across Britain, Charlotte will be settling back into a new year at school, which in her case is Lambrook School, in Berkshire.
However, fans of the princess can expect to see more of her around Christmas, when she will likely attend her mother Princess Kate’s Together at Christmas carol service, as well as going to church with the royals on Christmas Day.
