There were plenty of strong performances in Newcastle United’s win over Bradford City, but one player stood out in particular at St James’ Park.
The Magpies booked their place in the fourth round of the Carabao Cup with a 4-1 win over Bradford, on a night that saw Eddie Howe rotate his side yet again.
Bruno Guimaraes returned and impressed, while Will Osula scored two goals to seize his opportunity.
However, the player who stood out the most in Newcastle’s win was Lewis Miley.

Having played the full 90 minutes against Bournemouth on Sunday, Miley received some criticism on social media. A lot of that criticism was unfair, although Geordie Boot Boys called on Miley to be braver in possession.
He was exactly that on Wednesday night, as Howe deployed him in the middle of Newcastle’s midfield three against Bradford.
The 19-year-old produced a confident display, showing a willingness to take risks and even make mistakes. That did happen on occasions, and it resulted in Bradford scoring their only goal of the night.
There were moments when Miley gave away the ball with some slack passing, but it came from him wanting to be progressive and move the ball up the pitch.
More often than not he got it right, combining beautifully with Bruno Guimaraes all night. The teenager sent a message with his performance, at a time when it has been reported that Miley has been ‘frustrated’ by his lack of minutes.

Howe was pleased with Miley against Bradford, and so he should be.
The local lad orchestrated proceedings in front of the defence, playing a key role in advancing his side up the pitch and through the lines.
No player touched the ball more than Miley on Wednesday night, and no player completed more passes either.
Miley should be very happy with his performance, but it is unlikely to result in him retaining his place in the starting XI. Newcastle United face Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday in their next game, with Sandro Tonali poised to return to the side.
