A man was taken off an easyJet flight by police moments after it landed in Manchester Airport.

Officers were waiting for the 32-year-old when the flight from Egypt landed on Tuesday morning (September 23).

As previously reported by the Manchester Evening News, flight EZY2252 was already delayed by the time it arrived in the UK.

The flight, which left Hurghada on Monday, was diverted to Brindisi in Italy after another passenger was taken ill.

Passengers said they were stuck on the runway for ‘two hours’ from 2am, with flight data showing the plane took off for Manchester from Brindisi at around 4am.

But the delay did not deter police, who were waiting for the suspect on-board who was wanted in connection with drug supply offences in Bradford, West Yorkshire.

A spokesperson for West Yorkshire Police said: “A 32-year-old man was arrested in connection with an investigation into the supply of Class A drugs in Bradford.

“He was later released under investigation. Enquiries are continuing.”

One passenger on-board the easyJet flight described the journey as a ‘nightmare’.

Commenting on the diversion to Italy, an easyJet spokesperson said: “Flight EZY2252 from Hurghada to Manchester on September 22 diverted to Brindisi, due to a customer onboard requiring urgent medical attention.

“The customer was met by medical services on arrival and the flight then continued to Manchester.

“The safety and wellbeing of our customers and crew is always easyJet’s highest priority.”
