Jimmy Kimmel has had the longest week of his life, but he’s not taking it easy. In his second show back from suspension on September 24, Kimmel laughed off Donald Trump’s Truth Social post saying he “can’t believe” ABC brought back the show. “You can’t believe they gave me my job back?” Kimmel said in his monologue. “I can’t believe we gave you your job back.” Trump’s post continued, “I think we’re going to test ABC out on this. Let’s see how we do. Last time I went after them, they gave me $16 Million Dollars. This one sounds even more lucrative. A true bunch of losers!,” before concluding, “Let Jimmy Kimmel rot in his bad ratings.”

“There’s the threat again, this time straight from FCC-biscuit’s mouth,” Kimmel barely had to joke. “Only Donald Trump would try to prove he wasn’t threatening ABC by threatening ABC.” Despite only returning “for most of the country,” Jimmy Kimmel Live! had 6.2 million broadcast viewers on September 23 and broke its own monologue-viewing record on YouTube. “He does know bad ratings. He has some of the worst ratings any president has ever had,” Kimmel laughed at Trump’s record-low approval. “So on behalf of all of us, welcome to the crappy ratings club, Mr. President.” Later in the episode, Ethan Hawke joined the chorus of support from Kimmel’s peers in Hollywood, stopping by to say that signing a letter for him was “one of the greatest privileges.” But, uh, he might’ve forgotten to actually sign it.
