LONDON, Ky. (WYMT) – The annual World Chicken Festival is in full swing in Downtown London, bringing folks from all over to celebrate one thing… chicken!
Thousands of people visit London from all over the county just for the event, which is known as one of Kentucky’s largest festivals.
Jean and Jerry Watson have traveled from Knoxville, Tennessee for years to attend the famous festival.
“We probably missed just a few of them, but we try to come every year straight,” Jerry said. “It’s just a tradition to come and see all the things and people and eat that good chicken of course!”
Whether you visit for the wings, legs, or the full fried chicken dinner, the festival is filled with something for everyone.
Autumn and Ava Stokes who were attending the festival said the carnival rides and the food is their favorite part.
“I love the lemonade, the ice cream, the funnel cake, the Oreos. I love all of it!” Autumn said.
If you are attending for the chicken or the fun, folks say you won’t leave the festival without a full belly or a smile.
Tifany DeGough participated in the Imitate a Chicken Competition and won $100. “So, I was in the I think it was called the imitate a chicken. And I ended up winning!”
People also gather to peek at the worlds largest stainless-steel skillet, which is from London, Kentucky.
Wayne Riley, the director of the World Chicken Festival skillet said they fry around 800 pounds of chicken a day for the festival.
“I think the center of attention is supposed to be the skillet, you know. That’s supposed to be the center of attraction. That’s what it was built around was the skillet,” Riley said.
The festival is four days of fun, and will wrap up this years event Sunday night.
