Two men have been jailed after police found a shotgun, loaded revolver and loaded pistol

This is the moment police recovered three guns from a car which had been stopped as its driver tried to flee from armed officers.

The shotgun, as well as a loaded revolver and loaded pistol, were hidden in a bag in the front passenger footwell of the Audi.

Adam Sajjad was spotted by officers handing a bag from a Ford Fiesta to his cousin Sikander Farooq, who was sat in a dark blue Audi S3 which was also parked on Wychbold Crescent in Shard End, just after 10pm on January 24, last year.

Farooq drove away from the scene and was intercepted by firearms officers on Flaxley Road, Stechford.

Farooq was detained after being tasered.

The car was examined and inside a Mickey Mouse bag officers found more bags containing a Smith & Wesson revolver, loaded with three rounds, a Beretta sawn-off shotgun and a Walther pistol with 9 rounds of ammunition.

Four shotgun shells and two other bullets were also found.

Farooq, 29, from Stechford, and Sajjad, 19, of Shard End, admitted possession of firearms and ammunition and yesterday were each jailed for five years.

The success is part of Operation Target, which is the police’s ongoing fight against serious and organised crime in the West Midlands.

Police relentlessly target those involved in guns, drugs, money laundering and exploitation.

Supt Ryan Chambers, of the police’s Major Crime Proactive Team, said: “To take three live guns off the streets of the West Midlands in one go is rare, but a great result.

“These guns could have caused death, injury and untold damage to communities in the West Midlands, and their removal, and the jailing of the two men who were handling them, has made the region safer.”

The local policing model means specialist major crime detectives work more closely with neighbourhood officers to build intelligence and bring criminals to justice.

Police have invested more in the examination of CCTV and of analysis of digital media such as mobile phones, to help them bring more offenders before the courts.
