It’s pumpkin season again and what better way to get set for Halloween than with a trip out to pick your own.
Pumpkin festivals and events are running at various sites in and around Greater Manchester where kiddies can pick their own to take home – and enjoy a host of other activities too.
Some of them are already up and running and there are plenty of events planned across October half term. Here’s where you can take the family for some fun.
Reddish Vale Farm, Stockport
There’s a Halloween Festival happening at Reddish Vale Farm’s this year and tickets are already flying out.
Families can grab a wheelbarrow and head out to pick their own pumpkin off the pumpkin patch before taking it to carving cavern to create their masterpiece.
There’s a Spooky Express through the haunted woods (for £2 a ride), Halloween games like Vampire Archery and Witches Hat Hoopla, a Mad Science Show and Potion Making. New for this year is marshmallow toasting and a corn cannon (extra charges apply).
Of course there’s all the usual fun of the farm too with the animals and outdoor play, including giant bouncing pillows, zip wires, pony grooming and a beach area with sand and toys. And there’s lots of food and drink available too.
The event’s running from October 4 to 31 and tickets – £17.50 for children and £13.50 for adults – can be booked online. One pumpkin included per paying child.
Moonlight Pumpkin Evenings are also taking place this year from 5pm to 8pm on October 11/12, 18/19 and 25/26. Grab a wheelbarrow and explore the twinkling pumpkin patch filled. Snap a spooky selfie in the Halloween Village lit with eerie lights and glowing ghouls. Tickets cost £12.50 each.

Pumpkin picking is up and running at Kenyon Hall Farm from September 27 and open daily until October 31.
There are 20,000 plus pumpkins available this year, with pumpkins and squashes of all shapes and sizes and loads of cute photo opportunities dotted around the patch, including a new ‘Terrophone’ red telephone box added this year.
Tickets are £2.95 per person for adults and children – infants under 18 months go free – and must be booked online in advance. The entry ticket does not include a pumpkin. These are available to buy and are priced according to size.
If you don’t fancy picking one, there’s a huge indoor ready-picked selection for you to choose from.

The Pumpkin Patch is returning to Cockfields Farm this year with a whole host of activities.
Families can head out into the patch, with plenty of photo opportunities along the way and one free pumpkin with each ticket.
Fancy dress is recommended and activities include everything from a Haunted Tractor Hayride and Halloween Show to Cuddle Corner with the rabbits and guinea pigs and feeding the big farm animals too.
Enjoy the fairground carousel, play areas and bouncing pillow and pay a little extra to toast marshmallows with a family s’mores kit.
The event runs every weekend in October and then daily from October 25 to 31. Tickets, costing £17.95 for adults and kids, can be booked online. For under ones it’s £4.95.
There are other events running at the farm this year including a Mini Pumpkin Patch for toddlers and a Pumpkin Patch After Dark experience where you can pick a pumpkin and enjoy activities alongside live music and food and drink stalls.
Billed as ‘an evening event, not a scare event’, it is suitable for children of all ages.

There’s a pumpkin patch at the dairy farm this autumn where little ones can pick their own before heading to the carving barn.
Sessions last around an hour with tickets costing £12 per pumpkin/carver. Each carver can take along two guests.
The event runs on the weekend of October 18/19 and then daily from October 25 to 31. Tickets available on the website here.

Smithills Open Farm, Bolton
A Pumpkin Picking event is running at Smithills Open Farm.
It’s suitable for children of all ages and farm staff will be in fancy dress helping to keep them entertained.
Tickets cost £6 each and you buy tickets for the number of pumpkins you want to pick, not the amount of people attending.
You need to buy separate tickets for the other Halloween events at the farm, including the Halloween Special, with a spooky sweet hunt, running from October 25 to 31, and the one-night only Halloween Fright Night, running on October 31 with haunted tractor rides, zombie zones, scary walks and more. Recommended for ages six and above.
The Halloween Special is included in the usual farm admission, while the Fright Night is £15 per person.

Pumpkin picking is included in the attraction’s Halloween On The Farm event, which is back for 2025.
Families can pick their own from the giant pumpkin patch and there’s space to carve your special creation inside the carving tent.
There’s loads more fun to enjoy there too, including a witches and wizards Halloween show, giant displays including a huge hay bale Hogwarts Express, a Halloween disco and fancy dress competition.
Youngsters can pet and feed the animals, ride the caterpillar barrel ride, enjoy the pirate shootout and more.
The event is running on October 5, the weekends of October 11/12 and 18/19 and then daily from October 25 to 31.
For tickets – £13 adults, £16 children (child ticket includes a pumpkin) – book online. Under 12 months are free and do not include a pumpkin.

This one’s a bit of a hidden gem on the border of Wigan and Warrington, mostly because the prices are very reasonable and you don’t need to book in advance, or pay to enter.
There’s a brand new pumpkin field in place this year, packed with thousands of home grown pumpkins.
And as well as the photo opportunities at the site, there are cows, fresh milkshakes, eggs are more.
It’s open on October 11/12, then daily from October 18 to 31. You simply pay for the pumpkins you pick.

Another pumpkin patch near Warrington is Bates Farm in Croft which has a bumper crop this year.
The seven-acre patch has more than 40 varieties to pick from and there’s lots of fun in store with photo opportunities, face painting and the chance to meet the farm animals including pigs, sheep, calves and donkeys.
The indoor pumpkin barn offers an undercover area with ‘beautiful’ pumpkin displays and a space that’s ideal for pushchairs and wheelchairs if you want to avoid any mess.
There’s plenty of refreshments in the new food court too, with wood fired pizzas, artisan coffee and cakes and crepes.
Tickets cost £15 per car, with pumpkins priced separately and ranging from £1 to £15.

Families can head to Tatton Park’s farm this October to pick their own pumpkin from the Pumpkin Patch. Meet all the farmyard favourites before heading out to find your perfect pumpkin.
The event is running across the weekends of October 11/12 and 18/19 and then daily from October 25 to 31 with the exception of of October 27.
It costs £4 per pumpkin, plus standard farm and park entry fees. Sessions can be booked online.

The Pumpkin Maze is back at Pye Ash Farm this autumn along with a host of other activities.
There’ll be over 40 different varieties of pumpkins to choose from – all grown at the site, which has a new indoor barn this year, twice as big and offering lots more activities.
It costs £10 a car for pumpkin picking and includes all activities excluding face painting, for which a small charity donation is requested.
There are animals to see, ride on tractors, sheepdog demonstrations, a pumpkin nature trail and more.
Refreshments include pizzas, Mobberley Ice Cream, milkshakes and pumpkin spiced latte’s and gins / local ales.

The farm has become a popular haunt for pumpkin picking over recent years and its Pumpkin Festival is back for 2025.
The patch opens from October 11 and promises the ‘perfect autumn day out’ with photo props, live shows and more.
There’s Halloween entertainment and entertainers, including the likes of Louby Lou, Taz Entertainments, Scoop and Mr Stix and Peanut (check selected dates for the line-up).
The festival runs on the weekends of October 11/12, 18/19 and then daily from October 25 to 31.
Visitors can also meet and feed the farm’s Highland cows and llamas, with food costing £3 a bag.
Tickets cost £5 and don’t include a pumpkin. These are bought separately with prices ranging from £2.50 to £15. Book on the website here.

Tickets have already been selling fast for Roby Mill Pumpkin Patch, which is opens on October 4 and will open almost daily until Halloween.
There’s a huge range of pumpkins and minikins ready for the picking and photo opportunities and activities and games to get involved with.
To help manage the traffic, free tickets need to be booked for the busiest times – weekends and half term week from October 27 to 31. A ticket is required for each person attending the Pumpkin Patch, except for under twos.
There’ll be hot drinks and food, which will vary on different dates but will include Whisk and Pickle Pizza on October 18 and 19 and then daily from 25 to 31.
Starkidz Entertainment will be there on two days over half term with Jack Skellington and the nightmare before Christmas crew on October 27 and the Sanderson Sisters from Hocus Pocus on October 27.
Parking and entry are free, with tickets via eventbrite. Pumpkins are priced differently according to size.

Thousands of pumpkins of all shapes and sizes are ready for the picking at Dunham Massey Ice Cream Farm at Ash Farm.
Booking is £6 per car or group – if you arrive on foot or via other means you will also need one booking per group.
There’s a scavenger hunt for kids, photo opportunities throughout the patch, and plenty of food offerings, including pizzas and burgers.
Of course there’s ice cream too, including the Halloween themed flavours and you pay for pumpkins separately, based on their size.

The patch is back at Seven Sisters, nestled in a secret area within the corn field.
Visitors can grab a pink wheelbarrow and stroll down to the patch to pick one of the homegrown pumpkins.
There’s no need to book and entry is free, so you only pay for what you pick, with prices ranging from 50p to £15.
Seasonal themed ice creams and desserts are on the menu including shakes, waffles, pumpkin spiced lattes and hot chocolates.

Closer to Halloween there’s also a Halloween Night Maze running over three nights. See the farm lit up at its spookiest and help find the seven missing scarecrow ingredients to break the curse.

The ‘original UK pumpkin patch’ is celebrating its 16th birthday this year.
Visitors are invited to make their way through one of the spooky maize mazes to find the hidden pumpkin patch and photo prop village.
There are ‘acres and acres of pumpkins to choose from’ and lots more fun to enjoy, including tractor rides costing £3 a go.
No booking is required and the maze entry fee is £2 per person. Pumpkins are £2 (small), £3.50 (regular) and larger ones also available from £5.
Fancy dress is encouraged and children can also enjoy visiting the animals including donkeys, sheep and goats.

The Pumpkin Picking Adventure is back at Windmill Animal Farm for another year and there’s a full day of farmyard fun in store for families.
Each ticket includes admission to Windmill Animal Farm and access to the Pumpkin Picking Adventure, where all visitors get to pick their own pumpkin from the fields that they are grown in.
It includes a day’s admission to the farm, all animal interactions and activities including the Runaway Farm Train. One pumpkin per ticket is included, and guests are welcome to purchase more pumpkins on the day.
