A YouTuber who stayed at one of Britain’s most affordable hotels was stunned when he entered his £7 per person accommodation.
On his Explore with Curt channel, hotel critic Curtis described Blackpool’s Pine Lodge Hotel as “a pretty solid choice” – particularly considering its bargain price.
Curtis reserved a double room at the establishment, situated less than 10 minutes from Blackpool Pleasure Beach, with the city just an hour from Manchester, and was amazed by thoughtful touches including complimentary biscuits and premium hand soap.
“You don’t really see these at this price tag,” he remarked.
However, the cheap hotel room came with several issues. Curtis pointed out some damaged drawers on the bedside cabinet, a rather dubious electrical socket, and a mysterious, unexplained mark on the mattress.

The hotel room’s view displayed a partly-demolished structure, which Curtis acknowledged as “just a pretty standard Blackpool alleyway” and whilst the top of the wardrobe was “absolutely caked in dust,” he suggested it wasn’t likely that most guests would be troubled by that.
Upon entering the budget accommodation, Curtis was struck by the fact that it “smelled amazing” and observed that even the pool table in the bar appeared to have been hoovered.
The accommodation, too, created a positive first impression. “It feels warm, it feels comfortable, it feels cosy…it feels nice,” Curtis remarked.
Some of the fixtures, such as the large mirror in Curtis’s room, had seen better days, and the floorboards were noticeably creaky. However, it seemed that the staff had done their best to keep things clean and tidy.
He was happy with the room overall, despite a mystery stain on the mattress
Another minor gripe was the use of cheap plastic coat-hangers in the wardrobe instead of sturdy wooden ones. On a positive note, Curtis was thrilled with the addition of a ceiling fan which he noted would be useful “especially in this weather.”
Curtis emphasised that the hotel doesn’t claim to provide a five-star experience, but rather offers an affordable and cheerful option for those visiting Blackpool on a budget: “Don’t get me wrong, if you’re looking for a five-star spa stay, probably not the one for you.
“But if you’re looking for a cheap, comfortable, welcoming, friendly hotel, then I fully recommend it, 100%.”
Online reviews for the three-star Pine Lodge Hotel are generally favourable. It has earned a respectable score of 7.2 out of 10 on Booking.com. One satisfied guest who visited this month commended the “great location” and “lovely owners”, as well as the reasonable prices.
Another reviewer wrote: “It was clean and the owner was very busy keeping on top of everything. Would stay again.”
