Multiple lights were spotted in a triangle formation
Bristol sky-gazers were left speculating about a mystery sight above the north of the city last night (Friday, September 26).
A series of small spotlights were seen zooming through the night sky late on Friday night, between around 10.45pm and 11.15pm.
Several pictures and videos have been posted on social media from different parts of the city, including north Bristol, Southmead, Kingswood and Fishponds. One resident in the Patchway area said they saw three lights as they looked towards Filton, and that the lights were “spaced out in a sort of triangle”.
The person, who did not wish to be named, said: “Spotted in Patchway, looking over towards Filton and Southmead area. It was behind the Royal Mail building, on the old Filton runway.
“Three lights in total, spaced out in a sort of triangle. I watched it for about 30 minutes. I’m just hoping someone know what it is because it’s winding me up.”

Another asked on a local Facebook page: “What’s the strange blue lights in the sky?” One person joked it may be a UFO, while another asserted that it must be ‘Batman’s signal.
Another more plausible suggestion for the source was Circus Extreme on Durdham Downs, which opened on Friday night and will be running until October 19. Organisers note that the performances will be set to “choreographed music and lighting”.
Commenters elsewhere suggested it could be the lighting being tested at Avon Valley Adventure Park near Keynsham as it gets ready for its annual FEAR Halloween event. However, that would be some distance from some of the sightings.
One witness said the direction was looking west from their position in Fishponds. Both the circus and the adventure park have been contacted for comment.
