Six crews rushed to the scene of a house fire in Birmingham this morning, Saturday, September 27 – as an ‘avoid the area’ warning was issued.

West Midlands Fire Service said they were called to Twyford Road, Ward End, at 9.12am.

There were no rescues made. One person was taken to hospital with a head injury, which is not believed to be life-threatening.

A fire spokeswoman confirmed there had been a fire in loft area of the property.

An aerial platform was used as part of putting the flames out.

Twyford Road was closed to ensure the emergency services could work at the scene.

The fire service posted on X: “We have four crews in attendance at Twyford Road, Ward End, where they have responded to a house fire.

“Please avoid the area, where possible.”

It then added: “This incident has now increased to six appliances, a Hydraulic Platform, and other support appliances.

“The area around Twyford Road and Washwood Heath Road are busy.

“Please avoid the area to allow crews to work safely.”
