Three people had to be rescued from the seventh floor of a tower block in south Bristol after a fire broke out.

At 2pm yesterday (Tuesday, April 22) Avon Fire and Rescue were called to a block of flats on Bishport Avenue in Hartcliffe.

A fire was discovered in a flat on the seventh floor.

Firefighters rescued three people from within the building.

Crews then safely extinguished the fire.

It is believed the cause of the fire was accidental.

The ambulance service treated three people at the scene.

Pictures from the scene shows five fire engines present.

Avon Fire and Rescue said: “We were called at 2pm on Tuesday, April 22, to reports of a fire in a block of flats on Bishport Avenue, Hartcliffe.

“On arrival, crews found a fire in one flat on the seventh floor.

“Firefighters rescued three people from the building and safely extinguished the fire.

“The cause of the fire is thought to be accidental.

“Three people were treated by ambulance at the scene.”
