A man aged in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of the assault of a boy in a Birmingham park – as the public were urged not to speculate on the motive surrounding the case.

It followed an incident in Yardley Park on Friday, September 26.

The victim’s father claimed on social media that his 12-year-old son was beaten up in an alleged racist attack.

He also claimed that the alleged attacker was not arrested as officers did not want to detain him in front of his own children.

Police said that it was established that the boy was not seriously physically injured.

A police spokesman told BirminghamLive: “A man has been arrested on suspicion of assault after an incident in Yardley.

“We were called yesterday after a boy reported being assaulted in Yardley Park.

“A man in his 40s has now been arrested and is in custody while our enquiries continue.

“After assessment, it has been established the boy was not seriously physically injured.

“Our investigation is at an early stage, and we would remind everyone to avoid speculation as to what happened and any potential motive.

“Our investigation is ongoing, and we are working to understand what happened in the lead-up to our call.”
