Birmingham City will probably have to do without Bright Osayi-Samuel for a game soon
Birmingham City’s Bright Osayi-Samuel
Bright Osayi-Samuel is already walking the disciplinary tightrope after four bookings in Birmingham City’s opening six Championship games.
Osayi-Samuel’s latest yellow card came against Swansea last weekend for hauling down Zeidane Inoussa to halt the winger in his tracks and a yellow card against Coventry City today would see him miss the match with Sheffield Wednesday on Tuesday.
Players will be banned for a game once they receive five yellow cards, meaning Osayi-Samuel is already at risk.
Should the full-back receive a caution in any of Blues’ next 13 Championship games he will receive a one-match suspension.
The first amnesty comes in after 19 Championship matches, which means players can no longer be banned for receiving five cautions.
Osayi-Samuel has collected his four bookings to date against Ipswich Town, Blackburn Rovers, Stoke and Swansea.
Fortunately, Blues have a readymade replacement for Osayi-Samuel in Ethan Laird who has started three league games this season and been a substitute in the other three.
Blues don’t have any other players currently at risk of a ban with Christoph Klarer, Paik Seung-ho and Demarai Gray all on two bookings apiece.
Ryan Allsop, Tomoki Iwata and Kyogo Furuhashi have all been booked once in the Championship this season.
Blues’ Championship yellow cards table
Bright Osayi-Samuel – 4
Paik Seung-ho – 2
Christoph Klarer – 2
Demarai Gray – 2
Ryan Allsop – 1
Kyogo Furuhashi – 1
Tomoki Iwata – 1
