A much-loved family attraction is set to return to Liverpool this winter. Otterspool Adventure, home to North Pole Experience, will return in December with the launch of Otterspool On Ice. The attraction is expected to be “Liverpool’s biggest real ice rink”.
The experience is usually only accessible as part of The North Pole Experience. But for the first time, Otterspool’s rink will be open to the public on select dates throughout December and January. Visitors can book standalone skating sessions and enjoy 45 minutes on the ice against the stunning backdrop of Liverpool’s waterfront.
Set within the grounds of Otterspool Adventure, the rink has long been a highlight of the North Pole Experience — a Christmas-themed attraction featuring Santa’s Grotto, Mother Christmas’ Kitchen, the Elf Workshop, and more.
Steven Cosgrove, Director at Otterspool Adventure, said: “Steven Cosgrove, Director at Otterspool Adventure, said: “Every year, families come to us for the North Pole Experience and make magical memories on our rink.
“This year, we’re excited to open Liverpool’s biggest ice rink to everyone, whether you’re here for a family outing, a festive date night, or simply a spin on the ice.”
Every ticket includes skate hire, with optional penguin skating aids for younger children and staff on hand to help.
Otterspool Adventure will also be offering special SEN sessions, designed with reduced music, softer lighting, and a calmer experience.
Tickets are priced at just £12 per adult, £10 per child (age 3 – 12), or £40 for a family of four (Two adults and two children.
Otterspool Adventure Centre turns itself into a winter wonderland for the festive season. Former ECHO journalist Kate Lally visited The North Pole Experience last year and described it as a “magical day”.
She said: “From the second we arrived, it did feel like we’d left our day-to-day behind, as we were immersed in all things Christmas.
“Elves were on hand to greet us, before my little one was given his own “ticket” to the North Pole, before we boarded a magical train. We were then treated to a Christmas show, before heading to the toy workshop.
“There was plenty of singing and dancing before the kids made their own teddy bears, with my son convinced he had actually worked alongside Santa’s Christmas crew. Then we headed over to pay Mrs Claus a visit.
“Inside her cosy cottage we decorated some gingerbread, before slipping and sliding on a gigantic ice rink, and then swinging by the post office, where kids can write and send letters to Santa. After toasting some marshmallows, we then headed to the grotto to meet the jolly man himself.
“A trail filled with twinkling lights and “snow” led us to Father Christmas, where a very-realistic Santa was eager to see us. Many parents will have experienced a “Father Christmas” who doesn’t quite look the part, but there was no danger of this here. My son very much believes he met the real deal, and I can’t take him to see any others now because he could well smell a rat.
“We had a magical day pretending we were at Lapland, and it’s made this part-Grinch feel very festive already.”
