Sean Longstaff produced his best performance in a Leeds United shirt, scoring a crucial goal in the Premier League draw against Bournemouth.
Former Newcastle United man Sean Longstaff was one of the most important signings made by Daniel Farke in the off-season, adding much-needed Premier League experience to the Leeds squad.
Longstaff has started all but one of Leeds’ league fixtures this season, and his importance to the side is growing each week, as he demonstrated with his goal-scoring display against Bournemouth.
The draw could easily have been a win as Daniel Farke was left ruing his side’s missed chances at full-time; however, Longstaff got the better of the midfield battle against Tyler Adams, who received a rough ride from the Leeds faithful.
After the game, one statistic highlighted the impressive nature of Longstaff’s display in the heart of the midfield as he achieved something no Leeds player had done as his side dealt with the mixed emotions of another last-minute goal conceded.

A statistic shared by Opta’s Jonny Cooper, posting on the social media site X (formerly Twitter), highlights the full impact of Longstaff’s impressive display.
According to Cooper, Longstaff created a total of seven chances and won 10 duels as he drove Leeds on in the middle of the park, becoming the first Leeds player to do so in the Premier League since Opta’s records began.
On top of this impressive output, Longstaff also covered 12 kilometres as he seemed to be everywhere in an all-action display.

Not only was his goal his first for Leeds, but it was his first Premier League goal since April 2024, when he found the net for Newcastle against Brighton.
Leeds’ midfield has been criticised for lacking creativity at times this season, but Longstaff showed that it is possible to mix flair and grit in an impressive performance.
Longstaff delighted to score his first Leeds United goal
Speaking to LUTV after the game, Longstaff expressed his delight at finding the net for his new club for the first time.
According to Longstaff, he is “over the moon” to break his long goal-scoring drought and get off the mark at Elland Road.
Longstaff said: “I thought Brenden was going to score, and then I just tried to hit it where I could, and luckily it sliced into the top corner and a bit of a dodgy knee slide.
“A bit of relief to score a goal – I hadn’t scored in a little while, so I was over the moon.”
