Sweden announced on 11 September that it will procure 18 newly manufactured Archer artillery systems to be delivered to Ukraine. The government also said there is an ambition, together with several other countries, to create a cooperative project aimed at acquiring additional Archer systems.
Sweden has previously donated eight existing Archer systems and procured 18 more for Ukraine. With this latest decision, Ukraine will have a total of 44 Archer systems available.
The newly manufactured systems are part of Sweden’s twentieth military support package for Ukraine, valued at approximately SEK 9.2 billion. The Archer systems already in use in Ukraine have played a key role in its ongoing defence efforts, with further units requested by Kyiv.
BAE Systems Bofors continues to contribute to Ukraine’s defence by supplying more Archer systems. The Archer, a combat-proven and mobile 155 mm artillery system, is capable of stopping, firing three to four rounds, and relocating within one minute to avoid counterfire.
