A woman in her 80s and a male pedestrian have died in separate accidents on Northern Ireland’s roads.

The elderly woman died after a collision in Co Antrim on Sunday afternoon.

The two vehicle crash happened in the Glarryford area.

Inspector Cherith Adair of the PSNI’s Collision Investigation Unit said: “Shortly after 2pm, we received a report that a collision had occurred in the Killagan Road area.

“Our officers attended alongside emergency service partners, however the woman was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

“Three other people have been taken to hospital for treatment for their injuries.

“The road, which was closed for a period of time as officers conducted enquiries, has now re-opened.”

Separately, a man has died following a road traffic collision on the Ballygowan Road in east Belfast.

Emergency services were called to the scene where the male pedestrian was struck by a vehicle shortly after 11pm on Saturday.

Police, fire and ambulance crews all attended.

The road was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident, and investigations were carried out.

Inspector Adair added: “Just after 11pm, we received a report of a pedestrian having been struck by a vehicle in the Ballygowan Road area.

“Our officers attended alongside emergency service partners, however the man was sadly pronounced deceased at the scene.”

Police have appealed for anyone who witnessed the collisions or who may have dashcam footage to contact them on 101.
