A ‘small but mighty urban high street’ has been named as ‘one of the most happening neighbourhoods in Brum’.
The high praise comes from Muddy Stilettos, which has named Stirchley as one of the best places to live in Birmingham in its 2025 awards.
The lifestyle magazine editors like the fact this vibrant suburb is a ‘haven for independent businesses’ and a ‘tight knit community’ that hosts lots of fun things to do.

A spokeswoman for Muddy Stilettos said: “Sitting in the shadows of the historic Cadbury factory in Bournville this small but mighty urban high street is one of the most happening neighbourhoods in Brum.
“From the winner of the Michelin Young Chef Award for 2025 to a booming craft beer trade and one of the Top 50 cocktail bars, it’s a haven for independent businesses.

“Expect anything from local fruit and veg to freshly-baked bread, arts and crafts and heaps more.
“This former Edwardian baths, which celebrated its 10th anniversary in 2025, is located in the town centre has been converted into a community hub and has everything on from film nights to fitness classes, choir sessions and table tennis games. Over at the local library you’ll find free art classes and clubs.”

The area is also known for its ‘cool foodie joints’ with award-winning Riverine Rabbit serving ‘inventive and invigorating’ small plates, yummy cake and brunch at CanEat, Eat Vietnam Vietnamese food and fried chicken and burgers at Yardbirds.
Couch was crowned number four in the list of Top UK Cocktail Bars 2025. There’s also wood-fired pizza to enjoy at Alicia’s Micro bakehouse, Thai food at Soi 1268, British cuisines at Cork & Cage and co-operative bakery Loaf for lunch an the £1 Stirchley loaf so everyone can afford good bread.
Independent shops include Granny’s Attic Bespoke boutique which gives new life to pre-loved furniture, Stirchley Wines, Sweetmeat for handmade fudge and Birmingham’s first zero-waste supermarket The Clean Kilo is just round the corner in Bournville.
It’s also home to 2024’s Muddy Award-winning best yoga studio Yoga Borne and for massage, mindfulness and energy healing check out Space Therapies.
Average house prices came in at around £252,512 over the last year with most sales being terraced properties, selling for an average price of £252,094. Semi-detached homes sold for an average of £284,584, with flats fetching £132,222, according to Muddy Stilettos.
There are two primary schools with Good Ofsted ratings plus an Outstanding primary in nearby Moseley. When it comes to secondary schools, there are three rated Good in the area plus some nearby independents.
