Update [Mon 29th Sep 2025, 8:48pm]: As expected, Age of Mythology: Retold is no longer showing up in the “Leaving Soon” section of Xbox Game Pass. We assume it won’t return, but if it does, we’ll let you know.
Original Story: If you’ve woken up today and checked your Xbox app to see that a first-party game is leaving Xbox Game Pass soon, don’t worry! This is almost certainly just an error, and we’re assuming Microsoft will fix it in the very near future.
The game in question is Age of Mythology: Retold, which is showing up alongside all the Ninja Gaiden games that are leaving Xbox Game Pass at the end of September.
Here’s a look at Age of Mythology in the list:
Now, it’s not impossible for an Xbox first-party game to be removed from Xbox Game Pass, but it usually only happens when the situation is out of Microsoft’s control – such as when the licenses expire for the old Forza games.
It’s definitely weird that Age of Mythology: Retold has suddenly appeared in the list, but keep in mind that it first released exactly 12 months ago, and most third-party Game Pass titles tend to leave after a year of being on the service. Microsoft probably just forgot to update something on the backend for Age of Mythology to keep it there permanently.
We’ll obviously let you know what ends up happening with this in the near future, especially as Microsoft looks set to announce a new batch of upcoming Game Pass leavers on Tuesday. Stay tuned for that!
