Kate Middleton is always a reliable source for style inspiration, especially if you’re someone who loves to dress in timeless looks that defy the trend cycle. In fact, the British royal’s commitment to classic silhouettes perhaps is what makes it so noticeable and effective when she does decide to dabble in the latest fad.
Case in point: The Princess of Wales recently stepped out in what is probably the biggest boot trend of fall 2025. During President Donald Trump and first lady Melania’s state visit to the United Kingdom, Princess Kate was spotted for a walk in the gardens of Frogmore Cottage in the shoe trend of the season: chocolate brown knee-high boots in suede. Made by Gianvito Rossi, the pointed toe and slightly slouchy fit of the boot’s shaft are also distinctly on trend at the moment.

The boots are right in line with fashion’s obsession with all things ’70s aesthetics right now, from a revival of boho looks to making suede the most popular material of the moment. Blazers, jackets, bags, and—yes—boots are all being sold in the leather. We also have the decade’s comeback to thank for the earthy tones that are currently so ubiquitous right now. It’s why brown boots are currently gaining traction over black boots.
It seems Kate Middleton is well aware of the ’70s revival, at least when it comes to new boots. The royal styled hers with a cropped jacket in green—also made of suede—and a tied scarf in the same shade. (So very ’70s!) A brown midlength skirt completes the look.
By the way, the combo of knee-high boots and a midiskirt à la Princess Kate is a fashion lifesaver in the fall and winter. On cold days, thermal leggings and wool socks can easily be hidden under the skirt and boots without ruining the effect.
