Two men have been arrested after a police chase ended in a serious crash on a busy Valleys road. The Ebbw Vale exit slip road on the A465 Heads of the Valleys Road has been closed since the early hours of Tuesday morning due to the incident.

Gwent Police confirmed their officers were pursuing a suspected stolen car at around 2.20am. The car drove the wrong way down the dual carriageway when a collision occurred involving both vehicles.

Witnesses reported passing the scene and seeing a vehicle on its roof. The road remains closed at this time.

Two men – one aged 44 from Abertillery and a 23-year-old from Blackwood who were arrested are currently being held in police custody. For the biggest stories in Wales first, sign up to our daily newsletter

They were arrested on suspicion of a number of offences, namely: theft of a motor vehicle, using a motor vehicle on a road/public place without third party insurance, and driving a motor vehicle with a proportion of specified controlled drug above the specified limit.

A spokeswoman for Gwent Police told WalesOnline: “At about 2.20am police were pursuing a suspected stolen car in the Ebbw Vale area.

“It drove the wrong way down the A465 dual carriageway and a collision occurred involving both cars.

“One man, aged 44 from Abertillery, and a 23-year-old man from Blackwood, have been arrested and are currently in police custody on suspicion of a number of offences.”
