Germany warns travelers of new Greek traffic rules

Germany’s Foreign Ministry has issued a travel advisory on recent changes to Greece’s traffic code, in force since September 13.

The main change is a new 30 kilometer-per-hour speed limit on narrow streets and in residential areas. The ministry noted that in many places road signs still show the old, higher limits.

Drivers face heavy fines for violations, often combined with suspension of their licenses and removal of license plates.

Officials urged German travelers to pay close attention to the rules to avoid penalties while driving in Greece.
